Last May 30, 2009, the SUHSD (Sweetwater Union High School District) invited Grandpa and Grandma to be speakers in one of the Workshop Sessions during the GEAR UP Fair at the Castle Park High School. They were part of the parent panel to talk and answer questions on how they were able to send their kids, 5 at that, to the best schools in the country, and then turned out to be very successful in their current professions. When the committee was looking for qualified couples, it has been weeks that they can't find one. At the back of my mind, I know I have one, but I am just waiting 'til they have exhausted all resources. Obviously they can't find one, so I had to submit their qualifications, and the committee were so impressed. They even said that I got exactly what they are looking for!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRANDPA RONNIE
Today we celebrated the 82nd birthday of RONALD C. SHORT, popularly known as Little Grandpa, Uncle Ron, Tyong Ronnie! And all September birthday celebrants as well like Kuya William, Louie, Tyang Pina, +Tyang Nana, John Paul, and Todd. Everyone had a blast as some family members whom we have not seen in many many years, happen to be in town and got the chance to celebrate with us.
The afternoon celebration turned into night as everybody started to share stories of old and everyone ended up crying because of the laughter...you know what I mean! One can't just help it but laugh when you have Manang LaBeth...hilarious and very animated! I haven't laughed that way in a long time.
So who came today to celebrate with us? Caveat: I will surely miss some unintentionally ok?
Let's start from the ones outside of San Diego: we have Ed Short from LA, Kuya William & Ate JoAnn from Hawaii, Bob Michaud from China, Beth Stockwell, Manny & Elsie from Oregon, who brought tons of stories that brought so much laughter. Not only are their stories funny, but more so her storytelling, undeniably hilarious! I personally has not seen Ate Beth for almost 35 years I guess, and it gave me so much happiness to see her again. The meeting of the nanny and the brat! Got to do some making up for all the heartaches I've caused her...whew, shameful me!

Before I go into other details, allow me to say this of Grampa...
We're so thankful and grateful to God for giving RONNIE to us all these years. What a genuinely nice person he is. He's such a sweetheart, that's why it's no surprise that the family, whichever side it is, plus the seniors at the Oxford Senior Association can't help but be happy whenever he's around. There will never be any boring moment with Grampa Ronnie, as he will always have something to share about Life, the News but moreso the latest on TV, movies, and some books he's been reading. So if you're not a TV or Movie person, you either be converted or you have to look for someone else to talk to. He loves to watch reality shows on TV, and will even call you to remind you that it's on. So if you hear him talking about some names that you don't even recognize, or doesn't sound familiar, it must be characters from Survivor, Big Brother, The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, Amazing Race, The Apprentice, oh well I guess I can go on and on and there wouldn't be enough space.
Some years back, I can say- thank God for VCRs, but since the DVR was introduced, it has been Tyong Ronnie's best friend. Though it would have been much better if it can tape 5 shows at the same time, and it's not asking too much...trust me.

And now, the SAN DIEGANS: Danny Short, Ronjie & Jean, Louie, Robin, Chris & Cameron, Terry & Bert, Sonnet & William, Danny & Tita, Tess & Jarvis, Jorge (Louie's friend), Tyang Felisa, Auntie Betty & Uncle Roger, Lita & husband (Bugar's friend), Jerome, Dang & Julius, Jackie Severance and some friends, Tyang Topeng, and lastly, yours truly-Marc & Jenny.
So, we wrap up the night with some intimate picture taking of Grandpa and Grandma. We pray for good health for both of you, for many many more years together, and many many more birthdays, anniversaries, and vacations to come...'til next year...and the year after...and the year after...WE LOVE YOU...AND GOD BLESS!
